Vein removal?
Has anyone had varicose veins or spider veins removed? I have developed a few varicose veins on the inside of my left leg and a spider vein on my ankle during pregnancy. Does anybody have a ballpark figure on how much it would cost to have those removed?
i had really bad varicose veins on my lower legs (the green bulging kind, not spider veins) and i went to ucla for college and medical insurance was included while i was a student. so i had surgery on them (for free, yay!). i can only discuss the procedure but i don't know how much it costs.
i was put under general anesthesia and they did small 2 small incisions near the top and bottom of the veins. they clamped off the vein and injected a substance in that portion of the vein that made it collapse. then i had to wear a compression stocking for about 2 weeks (a pain, but worth it in the end). i have a friend who had spider veins though and they just did injections on them and they almost completely disappeared (no anesthesia).

Endovenous laser ablation or ELA is one of the more recent technologies available to treat leg veins, using laser light to seal the incompetent underlying veins that lead to varicose veins. During the procedure, a small laser fibre is inserted into the underlying incompetent vein, the vein then thermally ablates and closes, thus meaning that the vein get absorbed into the body naturally. After treatment for your varicose veins you will need to wear compression socks, so as to make sure that the flow of blood continues properly and that you have no recurring problems.
